The group's aim is to support youth workers and teachers to develop dialogue work concerning Palestine and Israel between Muslim, Arab, Palestinian and Jewish young people. We do this through the dissemination of resources, training and direct support work with groups.
The project is run by Windows for Peace (UK), a volunteer run charity which promotes dialogue between Jews, Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims living in the UK and supports the work of Window for Communication, which does similar work with young people in Israel and the occupied territories.
We welcome contact from youth workers working with Jewish or Arab and Muslim young people and young people interested in involvement.
The group has included people :
• age 13-60plus,
• backgrounds - including Palestinian, Israeli, Moroccan, Pakistani, Scottish and Mancunian.
• different ways of expressing commitment to religious heritages
Activities include:
Groups are likely to choose their own ways of exploring others lives and views. In the past this has included:
• Using art to build a picture of our own group and the 'others'
• viewing and discussing films, plays and exhibitions
• cooking, eating, dancing together
• drama, role play, writing letter
Some observations include:
• how little most of us know about our own culture and the geography of Israel and Palestine
• young people often welcome an opportunity for shared learning
• many similarities between our communities
• differences are not just religious or ethnic, eg gender and class can be important too.
