Millennium Development Goals Video Campaigning Project

Diversity and Dialogue brought together students from Manchester Academy, Burnage High School for Boys and Levenshulme High School for Girls to design and shoot a campaign video based around the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The aim of the project was to build understanding between young people from different faiths and communities in Manchester and to increase their understanding of wider global issues.

Each school provided between 6-10 students, aged 13-15, who came from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds and were predominantly Christian, Muslim and non-religious. The project started off with lessons and workshops to increase participants understanding of the MDGs in general, and then focused on three of the MDGs- eradicating poverty and hunger, empowering women and improving environmental sustainability.

The participants were split into their three school groups and looked at one of these issues each. They then came back together, shared their learning, and worked as a team to produce a video with Liverpool based film company, First Take. The video aims to raise awareness of the importance of the MDGs, and the process worked successfully to build relationships between young people from different faiths and communities in the city.
