Fairbridge: Barriers to Inclusion course

Fairbridge works with vulnerable young people aged 13-25 in disadvantaged areas of the UK. Through a combination of long-term personal support and challenging activities, they provide young people with a route back into mainstream society.

In Glasgow the Barriers to Inclusion course focuses on challenging deep-seated intolerant attitudes and promoting and fostering a culture of diversity. It aims to address sectarian attitudes and foster religious tolerance through education and to increase understanding between young people from all faiths and none. During the course young people visit different places of worship and St. Mungo's Museum of Religious Life and Art, to learn about the main world religions and participate in anti-sectarian workshops. They also go on a residential, share food from different cultures and learn about the environment. This course will run three times over the coming year.

These courses are run as part of our core programme which takes a holistic approach to the needs and development of each young person. Young people can only access the course where the issue has been identified as of particular concern by the young person's Fairbridge key worker. Young peoples engagement starts with a five day Access course which must be completed before participation in any other part of the programme.
