Govanhill Youth Project works with young people from all faiths and backgrounds between the ages of 11-18 in the Govanhill area. The aim of the project is to raise the self-confidence, knowledge and skills of young people through various activities such as drama, art, computer literacy courses and providing access to information and advice. Participants accessing the project have the opportunity to mix with young people from different faiths and backgrounds and to build relationships across communities.
The project conducts issue-based group meetings, a drama group and an art group and has groups in the local school at lunchtime for those who are unable to join in the evening. The group discussions address issues in a relevant, appropriate fashion to the age of the group and cover a vast amount of topics including, sexual health, relationships, racial and religious discrimination, crime, bullying, homelessness, employment and training issues, domestic violence, peer pressure and health.
The project has was established in 1993 and works with approximately 5,529 young people per year.
