Portsmouth Youth Inter Faith Forum

The Portsmouth Youth Interfaith Forum (PYIFF) is a new initiative recently set up by Portsmouth SACRE. It aims to create an ongoing project that will celebrate diversity and difference in the community and work on shared inter-faith and inter-cultural objectives and dialogue with young people in Portsmouth.

The PYIFF is one way in which Portsmouth SACRE is trying to develop and expand the space for young people to interact around issues of faith and worship outside of school, acknowledging that there isn't often the time or space on the curriculum during school hours. It is made up of 12 young people from different faiths who meet to lead and direct the project under the guidance of a project co-ordinator.

PYIFF is currently working hard on organising it's first major event, a day of workshops and talks on the theme of 'Celebrating Diversity- Creating Harmony', culminating in a concert by the multi cultural Pukaar Band. This will be held on the 3rd December 2005 in the afternoon at the John Pounds Community Centre and promises to be a thought provoking day with lots of opportunity for discussion and dialogue. It hopes to become increasingly active in youth interfaith work in Portsmouth in the future.
