Community Peace Garden

The Community Peace Garden is situated in the grounds of Community House Presbyterian Church in Newport and provides a wonderful space for peace-making activities involving people of all faiths in the community.

Each stage of the project was carried out with the participation and input from the community, for example extensive consultations were undertaken with people of all ages and faiths prior to developing a design for the garden. The dozens of groups that use the building every day had their say as to what they thought should be in a community peace garden, from the playgroup to the lunch club, the English classes to the visually impaired. Further ideas were sought at various public consultations as to what it means to make peace every day, and how a garden can help.

The public opening of the Community Peace Garden took place on the 20 June 2005 and work continues on the project to make the most of the space for a wide variety of peace-making activities.
