Playspace organises a range of activities and events for young people of different faiths and cultural backgrounds in Bradford. Activities include summer play schemes, arts and creative workshops and regular meetings which allow participants to learn about each other's cultures. The activities are mainly aimed at children from the age of 11 and up, although there are also some activities for a younger audience of 8-12 year olds.
The Playspace Residential scheme provides residential activity breaks for groups of young women, young men and mixed groups from different backgrounds and areas of Bradford. The three separate breaks take place once a year during the summer holidays and cater for groups of 10 participants from the age of 11 and upwards.
The residential breaks involve different activities depending on the group, some examples include walking, horseriding, swimming, outdoor pursuits, such as rock climbing, and sports activities. There is a significant emphasis on involving participants in the planning and organisation of the trip. This teaches important skills such as teamwork and communication and also provides an opportunity for individuals to learn about each other's needs, for example culturally appropriate food for the trip. It offers an excellent purpose for the interaction of different faith groups and a fun activity for the summer holidays.
