The Schools Linking Project in Bradford is in its fourth academic year and is developing a number of different strands. The core work of the project focuses on linked pairs of primary schools across the whole district. Where a school has more than 90% pupils of one ethnicity, it can be linked to a school with 90%plus of a different ethnicity, in order to provide pupils from different faiths and backgrounds with opportunities to meet, work and play together.
Creative arts and sports are key features of the project, to facilitate inclusive participation and to allow all pupils to find their voice. Where schools have diverse populations, other support is provided to enhance the positive ethos that diversity brings to the curriculum and the community.
New developments include expanding the project into secondary schools and a new model of linking in the Keighley district where every year five pupil is engaged in a district-wide initiative, supported by year 12 students in the local secondary schools.
The project team are continually striving to improve the linking model and make it accessible to all schools in the district. Ongoing professional development is provided for schools and support materials are currently under development.
