Intercultural Communication and Leadership School (ICLS)

The Intercultural Communication and Leadership School is an international organisation which aims to promote community cohesion and prevent local and global conflicts. It gives young people from different cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds a safe and neutral place to meet and discuss issues important to their area.

In addition, it trains young people in conflict resolution and teaches them leadership and media skills, which they can use to influence their local areas. In this way, the programme encourages the development of mutual respect, peaceful contact and long-term cooperation within and across different faith, cultural and ethnic communities.

The seminars arranged by the Intercultural Communication and Leadership School run for five days. After the seminar is over, the participants are expected to use the knowledge and experience they have gained to benefit their local communities. Examples of projects carried out by participants in an ICLS seminar are the 'Natural Born Leaders' and 'Youth of Bradford' projects.

The Intercultural Communication and Leadership School have held seminars across Europe and Asia since 2002. So far, 10 seminars have taken place in the UK including 8 in Bradford with over 100 young people participating in the programme. These seminars have focused on the Bradford area, but the programme is currently being expanded to other parts of the country.

In West Yorkshire, the programme is organized by the Active Faith Communities Programme.
