Working with Groundwork, Leeds Youth Cells Network, Middleton Methodist Church, Leeds Faith in Schools and the Sinai Synagogue, Diversity and Dialogue brought together young Christians and Jews from Leeds as well as some Israeli students to help clear up a small part of Leeds. The young people were fantastic and did a superb job of clearing rubbish in the area as well as meeting new people.
The young people were from different faiths and backgrounds but were able to share in their joint commitment to looking after the environment and helping people out. They were also extremely well received by local residents and the huge van full of rubbish was testament to the hard work they put in. After their hard work the young people shared a meal together.
It is exciting and encouraging to see people willing to work hard on a rainy Sunday in November, but even more encouraging to see that relationships have been cemented such that the Sinai Synagogue and Moortown Baptist church have since got together to collect for World Aids Day. Working together on a joint project which engaged local and global issues proved a successful way of building relationships between young people from different communities, and a great day out for all.
