Interfaith Task Group of Leeds Diocesan Council for Mission

The Interfaith Task Group was convened in Leeds in 2001 and its role is to monitor interfaith activity in the diocese, to take initiatives in interfaith issues where necessary and to articulate a diocesan response to interfaith issues.

It is involved in a number of initiatives including interfaith research, which currently consists of a questionnaire project aimed at finding out where to begin a programme of education about other faiths and about how Christians respond to them. It also organises conferences, talks and workshops on relevant issues, for example in the aftermath of the Iraq War it set up a dialogue event 'Trust or Terror' in November 2004 which was attended by over 60 participants from different faith communities. This was repeated in June 2005 with a 'Trust or Terror' event on faith and worship.

This year it is working closely with Together for Peace which is celebrated in Leeds from the 5-20 November. Together, in partnership with Save the Children, they are organising a series of 'Trust or Terror' community dialogue evenings to build upon and develop relationships between Christians, Jews and Muslims, themed around 'Faith and Family'. These will be held on the 10, 11, 14 and 16 November and include eating together, sharing stories and scriptures and interactive sessions for children and young people.
