Encompass promotes understanding and tolerance between young people of different faiths, cultures and backgrounds by means of challenging adventure programs. Encompass takes diverse groups of young people out of environments familiar to them and puts them in challenging new ones: environments where they need to work together to achieve shared objectives. As they do this, they learn to trust each other, and with this trust comes the confidence to talk about the issues at hand: stereotypes, identity and conflict.
Encompass was established by the family of Daniel Braden, a young British victim of the Bali bombings in 2002. Since inception Encompass has brought together over 200 young people and developed an excellent network of relationships in Indonesia, Malaysia, Israel, the Palestinian Territories, the United States and the UK.
Encompass has also produced a DVD educational resource on their work and accompanying lesson plans. These can be sent out to schools on request. For more information about their work please visit the website.
