Since it was established in 1987, Leap Confronting Conflict has been working to raise awareness of the conflicts facing young people in our communities. Through a number of projects it aims to help young people find possible solutions to conflicts and to train adults working with young people to confront conflict. Each year Leap reaches more than 2000 young people and 500 adults directly and about 6,000 more indirectly through network organisations and the professionals who Leap has trained.
Current youth projects which Leap are involved in include The Quarrel Shop, a London-based part-time training course for young volunteers in peer mediation and conflict resolution skills and PeerLink (formerly Young Mediator¨s Network) a national youth-led support network for young mediators. Leap is also working with students and staff in schools in inner London on conflict resolution and with young people and adults on inner city estates through their Gangs and Territorialism programme. A national programme of training for adult practitioners and consultancy for organisations alongside publications and practitioner manuals disseminates the work around the UK and abroad.
