Tolerance in Diversity (TiD) began as a project in 1994 by a group of young people responding to escalating racial attacks and the success of the BNP in Tower Hamlets. As a charity, it continues to be youth-led and trained and OCN accredited members, ages 16+, are the key workers delivering training and workshops to young people on a range of relevant issues, such as tackling racism, cultural diversity and conflict resolution.
It places importance on the involvement of young people in decision-making and aims to empower them to address issues that affect their lives, in doing so effectively creating good community relations. So far rolling teams of trained young people over the last ten years have worked with over 5,000 youths from a wide range of faiths and backgrounds across London, both nationally and internationally.
TiD will run one-off workshops but recommend a series in order to build upon themes identified by the participants. Although based in east London, TiD is willing to run sessions across the UK.
