Corrymeela

Founded in 1965, Corrymeela is a Christian Community of around 150 people who live out their commitment to peace and reconciliation in their homes, work places, churches and local communities. Every year over 7,000 people from a wide range of backgrounds take part in Corrymeela programmes at the Ballycastle Centre.

The Corrymeela Community works in partnership with a wide range of school, youth, church, community and family groups, bringing people together from across the sectarian divide to build new relationships and discover new possibilities for living together in peace. Corrymeela provides opportunities for young people to meet, listen to each other and share their experiences. Corrymeela's youth work also includes leadership training and personal development programmes supporting young people in becoming actively involved in reconciliation in their own communities.

For example the Youth in Community Reconciliation Project targets young adults, aged 18-25, who experience high levels of disadvantage due to the isolation, marginalisation and exclusion based on their race or sexual orientation. The Project allows diverse groups of young people to explore, in a residential setting, issues of identity, family, gender, sexuality, spirituality, cultural traditions, anti-sectarianism and political education over a number of weekends. The aim is to enable the young people to exercise roles within their own local community.
