The Avenues Project

The Avenues Project works with young people aged 11-25 from all communities in Gateshead. It operates a day time service with a range of activities, free internet access, job club and health session offering c card registration and free condoms. There is also IAG on benefits, housing, drug and alcohol issues.

The project based work includes football tournaments and music projects where young people can learn DJ-ing skills and learn how to play different musical instruments.

The Young Women's Group aims at developing young women's self esteem and self confidence. The project runs a detached youth work project where teams of youth workers 'walk the streets and parks' of the area engaging families and young people in conversation and encouraging all to participate in events, activities and new opportunities.

The Avenues Project is open to all. Many different communities are involved in the project. The main aim of the project is to break down barriers between young people from different communities in the local area. It does a lot of work around community cohesion and tackling racism and discrimination.
